For a variety of reasons, finding care for older adults in rural communities is becoming more and more of a challenge. This piece from the New York Times highlights the turmoil caused when small town nursing facilities shut down. In the aftermath, families have few choices available and are forced to make terribly difficult decisions.
We have experienced this within our own community when Espanola Valley Nursing and Rehab facility closed at the end of 2018, filling near by facilities to the brim and forcing some residents out of the area completely.
